# Settings

> What each setting does, and how Settings runs any action.

Open Settings with `,` (or `o`) in Rakumux mode, or the **, Settings** button in the footer. It's one
scrolling page under a search field: the settings first, then, under **Keys**, every action and its
keys. Type to narrow it to the settings and actions whose name or heading has every word you type,
such as `feed` or `restart`.

| Key | Does |
| - | - |
| Typing, `Backspace` | Search, and delete from the search |
| `↑`, `↓` | Choose a setting or an action |
| `→`, `←` | Show or hide what the selected row does |
| `Enter` (and `Space` while nothing is typed) | Change the selected setting, or run the selected action |
| `PgUp`, `PgDn`, `Home`, `End` | Move a page, or to the ends |
| `Esc` | Clear the search, then close |

## Settings

Signing in comes first, then what it brings, then the rest.

### Account

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Account** | Signs in to your Rakumux account, or shows who's signed in (`a`). See [Sign in](https://rakumux.com/docs/account/sign-in.md). |

### Available on sign-in

Greyed out until you sign in. **AI session titles** and **Agent feed** are switches on your account, the
same ones as at [rakumux.com/features](https://rakumux.com/features), so a change shows on every
machine you're signed in on. **Replies from rakumux.com** belongs to this machine alone.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **AI session titles** | Names your sessions with AI, from what you asked their agent (on by default). Names you give sessions yourself are kept. See [AI session titles](https://rakumux.com/docs/account/ai-titles.md). |
| **Agent feed** | The **Feed** beside your sessions (`f`): what your agents said, and the chats behind it, from every machine on your account (off by default). See [Agent feed](https://rakumux.com/docs/account/feed.md). |
| **Replies from rakumux.com** | Whether this machine types replies written on rakumux.com, or in Rakumux on your other machines, into its agent sessions (off by default). Off, they aren't typed in here and say so; replies written in this machine's own Rakumux always are. Only this machine's setting, saved on it, and never changed from the website. See [Reply](https://rakumux.com/docs/account/feed.md#reply). |

### Appearance, keyboard and app

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Layout** | Master detail, Grid or Tabs. See [Layouts](https://rakumux.com/docs/guides/layouts.md). Phones offer Master detail and Tabs. |
| **Icons** | Marks for folders and branches: **Plain** works in any font, **Emoji** needs a colour emoji font, **Nerd Font** needs a Nerd Font set in your terminal. If a mark shows as a box, your terminal can't show it. |
| **Option+↑/↓ in sessions** | **On**: Option/Alt+↑/↓ switch sessions from inside a session too, so the program there never gets them. **Off** (the default): they switch sessions in Rakumux mode only. OpenCode, Pi and Claude Code use these keys. |
| **Update** | Shows the installed version, or a newer one that's available. `Enter` (or `U`) checks for a release, asks you to confirm, then installs it and restarts only the UI. See [Updating](https://rakumux.com/docs/installation.md#updating). |
| **Restart UI** | Reloads this window with the latest build (`R`). The server and every session keep running. |
| **Restart server** | Restarts the background server in place with this build (`S`), for example after an update. Sessions and their programs keep running, and every window reconnects. Shows the running server's version, and the new one when they differ. Same as `rakumux daemon restart`. |
| **Terminal panel** | Opens a temporary shell below the main detail (`T`). See [Terminal panel](https://rakumux.com/docs/guides/terminal-panel.md). |

## Keys

Below the settings, Settings lists every Rakumux mode action with its keys, and `Enter` runs the
selected one, so you can use it as a command menu. The same list is on
[Keyboard and mouse](https://rakumux.com/docs/guides/keyboard-and-mouse.md).

## Settings in the config file

A few settings live only in `~/.rakumux/config.json`, such as the Rakumux key, the session cycle keys
and the AI naming keys. See [Configuration](https://rakumux.com/docs/reference/configuration.md).
