# Keyboard and mouse

> Every key in Rakumux mode, plus the mouse, Help and Settings.

Rakumux has two modes. In **session mode** every key goes to the program, except `Ctrl-\`, which
switches to **Rakumux mode**. The keys below are Rakumux mode keys. From inside a session, put
`Ctrl-\` first: `Ctrl-\ n` is a new session, `Ctrl-\ ?` opens Help.

> [!TIP]
>
> Settings (`,`) lists every action with its keys, and `Enter` runs the one you pick.

## Modes

| Keys | Does |
| - | - |
| `Ctrl-\` | Rakumux mode (from a session). The one key a session's program never gets. |
| `Esc`, `Ctrl-\` | Back to the session you came from. `Esc` first cancels what's pending (the second key of `gg`, then the filter). |
| `Enter`, `i`, `l` | Go into the selected session. A dead session is revived, an exited one restarted. On the tabs it opens the active tab's modal; on a folder header or **+ New session**, it creates a session there. |
| `Tab` | The session you worked in before the current one |
| `1`–`9` | Go into the session at that position |
| `\` | Go back into the session and send it `Ctrl-\`, for programs that use it |

## Moving around

| Keys | Does |
| - | - |
| `↓`, `j` / `↑`, `k` | Next / previous session or header, and through a session's open places |
| `Option`/`Alt`+`↓` / `↑` | Next / previous session (inside sessions too, when turned on in Settings) |
| `→` / `←` | Next / previous list tab (Status, Folders, App), wherever the selection is |
| `gg`, `Home` / `G`, `End` | Top of the list (the tabs) / bottom (**+ New session**) |
| `Ctrl-d` / `Ctrl-u` | Half a page down / up |
| `}` / `{` | Next / previous folder, app or status, when several are shown |
| `Ctrl-e`, `PgDn` / `Ctrl-y`, `PgUp` | Scroll the session shown on the right forward / back (Grid: next / previous page) |

> [!NOTE]
>
> If `Option`/`Alt`+`↑`/`↓` do nothing, your terminal isn't sending Option/Alt with the key. iTerm2,
> Ghostty, kitty, WezTerm and Alacritty do; in Terminal.app, turn on **Use Option as Meta key**.

## Sessions and folders

| Keys | Does |
| - | - |
| `n` | New session in the current folder |
| `N` | New sessions in the current folder run on your Sprite, or here again (the `☁ Sprite` toggle) |

| `w` / `W` | Show or hide where the selected session has worked (its places) / every session's |

| `J` / `K` | Move it down / up |
| `x` | Close it (end its program; asks first) |
| `d`, `dd` | Delete it (asks first) |
| `z` | Work in it full screen |
| `b` | Hide the list beside the session (Master detail, 100 columns or more), and show it again |
| `P` | Filter by folder (the Folders modal) |
| `/` | Filter sessions |
| `v` | Cycle the layout: Master detail, Grid, Tabs |

## In the Feed

While the Feed has the keys (its **≡ Feed** band is in the accent):

| Keys | Does |
| - | - |
| `↓`, `j` / `↑`, `k` | Next / previous card; reading a turn, scroll it |
| `Enter` | Read the selected turn whole; reading one, go into its session when it runs here |
| `r` | Write back to the session's newest card |
| `Ctrl-d` / `Ctrl-u`, `PgDn` / `PgUp` | Page through a turn you're reading |
| `Esc` | Back to the cards; from the cards, give the keys back to the list |

## Help and app

| Keys | Does |
| - | - |
| `?` | Help |

| `Ctrl-r` | Reconnect or reload the list |
| `R` | Restart this UI (asks first; sessions keep running) |
| `S` | Restart the server in place (asks first; sessions keep running) |
| `c` | Quit, then print `cd "<folder>"` for the selected session's folder |
| `q` | Quit Rakumux (sessions keep running) |

## Mouse

* Click a session in the list to show it; click the session to work in it.
* Click a tab at the top of the list to group the list by it; click the active one to open its
  modal.
* Point at a session to show a star left of its name: click `☆` to pin it or the gold `★` to unpin
  it, without changing the selection.
* Drag a session up or down the list (or a tab left or right) to move it. A click without moving
  just selects it.
* Click **▸** under a session to show where it has worked; click a place to copy its path.
* Drag the line between the list and the session to resize the list, and the line left of the Feed
to resize the Feed. **« Hide list** at the bottom of the list hides it; the **»** at the left edge
  brings it back.
* Click a card in the Feed to give it the keys and select it; click it again to read it whole.
* Click the mode in the centre of the footer: **SESSION MODE** switches to Rakumux mode, **RAKUMUX
MODE** goes back to the session. The footer buttons do what they say, including **f ≡ Feed** and
**a Sign in** while signed out. Phones send taps as clicks, so all of this works there too.
* The wheel scrolls the session's history, or goes to the program when it uses the mouse itself.
* Hold `Shift` while dragging to select and copy text with your terminal.

## In Help and Settings

| Keys | Does |
| - | - |
| `Tab`, `←`, `→` | Help: switch tab |
| `1`–`9` | Help: jump to a tab |
| `↑`, `↓` | Settings: choose a row. Help: scroll |
| `→`, `←` | Settings: show or hide what the selected row does |
| `Enter`, `Space` | Change the selected setting, or run the selected action |
| `PgUp`, `PgDn`, `Home`, `End` | Scroll, or move a page in Settings |
| `Esc`, `q` | Close (also `?` in Help, `,` or `o` in Settings) |

## `rakumux attach`

`rakumux attach <name|id>` shows one session full screen outside the UI, which works well over SSH.
Its prefix is the Rakumux key, `Ctrl-\`, followed by:

| Key | Does |
| - | - |
| `d` | Detach (the session keeps running) |
| `>` / `<` | The next / previous running session in this folder, by recent use |
| `n` | A new session in the current directory |
| `Ctrl-\` | Send a literal `Ctrl-\` to the program |
